Alan Pope lives with gorgeous wife Clare, the equally gorgeous [[http://popey.com/gallery/Sophie|Sophie]], and two [[http://popey.com/gallery/cats|cats]] - Pringle and Salem (sadly Twiglet died in 2004) in Farnborough.

Was using [[http://www.redhat.com|RedHat]] for quite some time, but after badgering from [[http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?HugoMills|Hugo]] and [[http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?|John]] he's switched to [[http://www.debian.org/|Debian]]. More recently switched on the desktop and laptop to [[http://ubuntulinux.org/|Ubuntu]] which is just fantastic. Alan has a [[http://popey.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?DellInspironXPSGen2|Dell]] laptop which is waay over specced - but great nonetheless. Clare's PC now runs Ubuntu. She mainly uses it for browsing/online shopping/email, managing the house finances and other bits and bobs.|
Alan has started to foist Linux on his relatives. The first to "get it" is his brother. Alan has written some letters to his brother detailing the whys and wherefores of Linux. They can be found on his personal [[http://popey.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ComputerForMyBrother|wiki]].

Alan also helps to administer the [[http://lug.org.uk/|lug.org.uk]] services.

Alan uses PHP sparingly on his drupal and gallery based website, with some PHP skills used for the lug.org.uk server too.

===== Work Stuff =====

Recently quit his job at [[http://www.ptsl.co.uk|PTSL]] to setup his own [[http://www.pontifex.ltd.uk|company]]. Currently still doing [[http://www.sap.com/|SAP]] [[http://www.sap.com/netweaver|Technical]] stuff, with some Linux stuff thrown in for good measure.
